Current Solar Incentive Levels

Available Capacity for Residential and Commercial Solar Incentives

The series of graphs below shows the available capacity at the current incentive level for each Austin Energy solar incentive offering. Once the capacity allotment for an incentive level has been achieved, the incentive will be reduced to the next level in the program ramp-down schedules.

Residential Solar Incentive

The following graph illustrates the capacity remaining at each level for the residential solar incentive. Applications are considered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Once the capacity allotment for the $0.40/Watt incentive level has been achieved, Austin Energy will begin a new residential rebate program format, providing a flat incentive for customers who take part in the new solar education program and install solar at their home.

Commercial Solar Performance-Based Incentive (PBI)

Commercial customers who install a solar PV system receive a PBI as a credit on their monthly bills. The PBI rate is determined using a three-tiered incentive structure: small commercial (includes most non-profit installations), medium commercial, and large commercial. Applications are considered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Austin Energy makes no financial commitment to applicants until a signed Letter of Intent (LOI) is issued.

Customers who previously participated in Austin Energy solar incentive programs are subject to additional restrictions.

Review the Commercial Solar PBI Guidelines (PDF).

Small Commercial and Nonprofit Solar PBI

Commercial projects up to 75 kW are eligible for the Small Commercial PBI, subject to applicable customer caps. Nonprofits who are not able to take advantage of federal tax credits and depreciation are eligible for the Small Commercial PBI for projects up to 400KW.

The following graph illustrates the capacity remaining at each incentive level.

Medium Commercial Solar PBI

Commercial projects greater than 75kW and less than or equal to 400kW are eligible for the Medium Commercial PBI, subject to applicable customer caps.

The following graph illustrates the capacity remaining at each incentive level.

Large Commercial Solar PBI

Commercial projects greater than 400 KW and less than 1,000 kW, or projects initiated by customers that have installed more than 400 kW of Austin Energy incentivized projects on their properties, are eligible for the Large Commercial PBI.

The Large Commercial PBI tier is broken into three 4 MW incentive steps. A customer may not receive more than 800kW of the 4 MW of capacity in an incentive step.  If a project exceeds 800kW or the available capacity remaining in that step, the project would be considered at the next incentive step.

The following graph illustrates the capacity remaining at each incentive level within each of the three steps.
