Austin Energy's substations provide the optimum siting solution for the wireless industry. Located in prime locations throughout Austin, many of our substations have existing monopoles with spaces available for cellular antennas.

Application Criteria

You must submit an application if you plan to:

  • Install a new tower or attachment.
  • Make modifications (any change in type, nature, or location of an attachment).
  • Remove an existing attachment.

 Application Process

Pole Attachment Process:First the customer submits the complete application online.Next, Austin Energy reviews the application.Then the customer completes construction.Then Austin Energy posts inspections.Then Austin Energy issues permit to attach.

Cell Tower Application Process

Please follow these instructions before submitting an application. Incomplete applications and applications submitted without the back-up information required below will not be accepted.

  1. Download and complete the Infrastructure Usage Application for Wireless Telecommunications (pdf).
  2. Provide required information:
    1. Provide at least two (2) recent, high-resolution photos of the proposed site
    2. Provide precise site location in the form of a Google Earth Pin (.kmz file)
    3. Provide proposed site plan and antenna pattern
    4. Provide structural analysis (For New or Modifications)
  3. Submit the completed application and additional information to Austin Energy’s IR Application below.
  4. At the bottom of the application, indicate if you want to receive an email confirmation.
