Austin condo development achieves 5-Star rating from Austin Energy Green Building

June 28, 2018

For only the third time in 28 years, an Austin condo development has received a 5-star rating through the Austin Energy Green Building program. AEGB awarded the highest rating available to FOURTH& Condos, a 97-Unit mixed-use project developed by Capsa Ventures. The last condo project to receive a 5-Star multifamily rating was the first phase of The South 5th in 2010.

FOURTH& features 600 rooftop solar panels, 10 electric vehicle charging stations, an exterior wrapped recycled pre-insulated steel framing, high-performance fixtures, efficient water boilers, variable speed air conditioning systems and more.

“Austin Energy has long supported green building standards because it supports the responsible use of energy and the responsible use of resources,” said Debbie Kimberly, Austin Energy vice president of customer energy solutions and corporate communications. “The homes and developments that attain a coveted 5-Star rating are truly leading the way in showing what is possible in designing and building efficient, comfortable and healthy properties. All these green building efforts help Austin meet its aggressive climate protection goals.”

The City of Austin established the nation’s first green building program in 1990. AEGB is now the nation’s most successful sustainable building program. Austin Energy leads not only the country, but also the world, in green building innovation. It has twice won awards from the United Nations, including the Scroll of Honour, considered the most prestigious human settlements development award in the world.

Since the program’s founding, AEGB has rated 156 multifamily developments, 271 commercial buildings, and more than 14,500 single-family homes. In that time, only three multifamily condominium developments achieved a 5-Star rating. Three affordable apartment developments all by Foundation Communities also achieved 5-Star ratings.

“We have a responsibility to be good stewards of the land we develop,” says Rance Clouse, CEO of Capsa Ventures. “Through extensive pre-planning, our team was very intentional with the materials we included at FOURTH&.”
