May is National Electrical Safety Month

Help Volt Spread the Word

Austin Energy's Volt mascot
Meet the utility’s new mascot, Volt, a very smart and safe LED bulb character who educates the community about electricity and safety.

Austin Energy employees care about personal safety, the safety of co-workers and public safety. The utility observes National Electrical Safety Month each May.

What is National Electrical Safety Month?

The Electrical Safety Foundation International is a non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to promoting electrical safety in the home, school, and workplace. To commemorate National Electrical Safety Month, ESFI spearheads an annual campaign to educate key audiences about the steps that can be taken to reduce the number of electricity-related fires, fatalities, injuries, and property loss.

Austin Energy is committed to bringing this campaign about electrical safety to local schools. Included in our virtual Power Town presentation is an extensive collection of useful facts and related safety tips, plus materials students can take home and share with their families.

Normally during this time of year, we offer school visits to provide information about electrical safety. Because of Covid-19, we are not doing in-person presentations this year; however, we are excited to let you know that we have a 20-minute electrical safety video entitled Electrical Safety World available online to share with students and parents instead.

We look forward to resuming in person school visits and presentations as soon as the situation allows.
