Austin Energy is more than just an electric utility. We are 1,700 of your friends and neighbors with a mission to safely deliver clean, affordable, reliable energy and excellent customer service — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

As a community-owned utility, we're a not-for-profit enterprise of the City of Austin working to make sure we can meet and exceed the needs of those we serve. This is how Austin Energy strives to be Customer Driven and Community Focused.

Working around, with, and near electricity and electrical equipment is inherently hazardous. The safety of our employees and our customers is our utmost concern. We strive to safely deliver energy by going above and beyond the industry safety standards, investing in quality safety equipment, and creating a culture among our employees that prioritizes safe practices for themselves and others.

We also want to keep our community safe. We offer safety education to local elementary schools so that the students know how to be safe around electricity and what to do if they are faced with an electrical hazard. Our Outage Map has a hazards layer where users can view any known electrical hazards such as downed power lines, blown fuses, trees on power lines and more 24/7.

Affordable Rates, Financial Assistance for Those in Need

The average Austin Energy residential customer comes in well below state averages for both energy use and bill amounts. As a not-for-profit electric utility, we strive to keep our electricity affordable and to provide help to customers who face financial difficulty. Each year, our Customer Assistance Programs provides $10 million in discounts and waivers to help customers pay their electric utility bills.
