Autopay

Scheduled, Automatic Bill Payment

City of Austin Official Seal

Why Choose Autopay?

Autopay is a free service that automatically debits your bank account to pay your monthly utility bill.

With Autopay, you continue to receive a monthly bill for review. And most importantly, you save time and money.

How Autopay Works

With Autopay, your utility bill payment is deducted automatically from your bank account each month.

  • The payment amount will be the total balance of your utility bill.
  • Your payment will be processed within two business days of the due date on your bill.

You will continue to receive your monthly bill in the mail, unless you sign up for eBill paperless billing.

For most customers, Autopay takes effect on the next bill after you sign up.

  • You should continue making payments manually until you see the Autopay message on your bill.
  • After Autopay starts, you’ll see a message on each bill stating it will be paid automatically with Autopay.

A Customer Care Representative may contact you if we need more information.

Eligibility

  • Residential and commercial City of Austin utility customers may participate.
  • You must have a bank account.
  • You must agree to pay the full utility account balance each month.

How to Sign Up for Autopay

It's easy to sign up for Autopay (and you can cancel it at any time).

Step 1: Have your utility account, bank account, and bank routing numbers available.

Step 2: Start or stop Autopay using one of the following options:

Charitable Contributions and Autopay

Transferring Autopay to a Different Address

Autopay will move with you automatically if you move within the City of Austin utility service area.

Autopay and Multiple Accounts

Multiple accounts must be enrolled separately in Autopay. You will need to provide the utility account number for each account you want to enroll.

There are three ways to add Autopay to multiple accounts:

Autopay and Multiple Premises

If you have service at multiple premises billed to one account, your Autopay payment will be for all the charges for those premises.

Dispute a Bill on Autopay

If you need to dispute a bill, call Customer Care at 512-494-9400. If you have questions about charges, be sure to call at least 10 business days before the bill is due.

Change Autopay Bank Information

  • If the City of Austin receives your request less than 10 business days before the due date printed on your utility bill, the change will not take effect until the next month's bill.
