City of Austin utilities help customers prepare for winter weather

Austin Energy, Austin Water, Austin Resource Recovery, Austin Watershed Protection and the City of Austin Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management are coming together to help customers with emergency preparedness, efficiency and sustainability this winter.

Information, demonstrations, and giveaway items will be offered at the City of Austin Utilities Customer Service Centers north and south locations Dec. 10 and 11. Meter keys, hose bib covers, hand-crank flashlights, solar-powered device chargers, emergency preparedness kit materials and winter preparedness tip sheets will be provided by the city. Customers can:

  • Learn how to stay safe during a power outage and get a free solar phone charger from Austin Energy.
  • Get a free water shutoff key or insulated faucet cover to help you prepare for freezing temps and avoid property damage from Austin Water.
  • Get ideas for dealing with winter emergencies from the Austin Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and start building your emergency preparedness kit.

Quantities are limited, so customers are encouraged to arrive early.
