These sites often lead to high‑pressure sales tactics or misleading contracts. Many sites are sophisticated and appear trustworthy. Before signing up for any service, take a moment to confirm it's an official Austin Energy program.

How to Verify a Legitimate Austin Energy Program Website

• Look for the official Austin Energy URL: https://austinenergy.com
• Avoid websites that only provide rebate information if a sales appointment is first booked.
• Avoid websites that are not affiliated with any government agency, utility, manufacturer, or a Participating Contractor with Austin Energy.
• Avoid third-party sites that aren’t accessed through or referenced on the official Austin Energy website.
• Confirm that any contractor is listed as a Participating Contractor with Austin Energy.

Common Red Flags to Watch For

• Feeling rushed or pressured to make a decision on the spot.
• Being told you must "sign today" to receive a rebate.
• Requests to sign documents you haven't had time to read thoroughly.
• Claims that they "work with Austin Energy" without providing a link to our official website.
• Unmarked vehicles, no ID badges, or contractors who cannot provide a professional license number.
• Promises of guaranteed rebates before any official Austin Energy application is submitted.
• Being asked for personal information (like account numbers) before you've verified the company.

Be Cautious of Unexpected Door-to-Door Visits and Phone Calls

• Austin Energy staff and Participating Contractors do not show up without prior communication.
• Legitimate contractors will always carry identification and are willing to provide their company name, license number, and a link to their listing on the Austin Energy website.
• Austin Energy staff will always wear an Austin Energy-branded shirt, drive an Austin Energy-branded vehicle and wear an Austin Energy badge.
• Avoid letting anyone pressure you to make a decision at your doorstep or immediately schedule an appointment.
• Be wary of phone calls that demand quick action, request personal information, or claim you must "sign up today" to receive a rebate.
• If you receive an unexpected call from someone claiming to be with Austin Energy and they pressure you to buy equipment or ask for account, bank or any other personal information, hang up and call our official number to verify. Austin Energy will never try to sell you equipment or energy efficiency improvements.
