Ready for the heat: Austin Energy prepares the grid and helps customers save this summer
June 16, 2026
As summer settles in, Austin Energy is ready to continue providing reliable power for our community. This spring, the utility carried out seasonal maintenance and weatherization across our system and at our power plants. This includes:
- Performing detailed maintenance and testing on our equipment to help prevent unexpected outages.
- Making sure crews are supplied and ready to respond when needed.
- Setting up specialized cooling systems to keep power plant equipment operating safely in extreme heat.
- Reviewing emergency processes for summer conditions.
Austin Energy has also certified its summer readiness with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), meeting all state requirements for seasonal emergency preparation.
All this work helps Austin Energy stay ready to keep the power flowing during high-demand days. If conditions change with Austin Energy’s system, you can get up-to-date information at our current conditions page.
Even with normal conditions, there can still be outages. Austin Energy has crews on standby 24/7 to respond immediately, and we repair most routine outages within a short period of time.
