Meter Review

The Austin Energy Meter Review Team double-checks your electrical meter equipment to identify any potential issues that may cause delay in receiving electricity. We want to make sure your work meets Austin Energy Criteria guidelines. This helps avoid any hold-ups when getting your meters and service connected.

Meter Review

Before Austin Energy can install a meter for your project, Austin Energy Meter Review will be required in the following cases:

  • Commercial new construction, remodels, revisions to approved permits, changes of use and certificates of occupancy/compliance
  • Multi-family new construction, remodels, revisions to approved permits, changes of use and certificates of occupancy/compliance
  • Service upgrades
  • Electrical service over 350A single phase or 225A three phase
  • Projects requiring 3 or more electric meters
  • Projects using modular metering packs
  • Installing new solar

Services We Offer

Metering Field Consultation

To get answers regarding your project's electrical needs, including meter sizing and type, transformer-to-service distances and service construction details. Meter Review provides optional field consultations for a fee of $165.00 to help customers with their electrical metering equipment questions.

We currently offer three to four field consultations twice a week. If you are interested in a field consultation, please fill out the Field Consultation Form (pdf) and use Customer Instructions for Field Operations (pdf) for more information on how to submit a request.

Please note Metering Field Consultation and Design Consultation are two different types of consultations:

  • Metering Field Consultations pertains to questions regarding your metering equipment meter sizing and type, transformer-to-service distances, and service construction details
  • Design Consultations pertains to questions regarding the infrastructure needed to supply electricity to your project such as transformers, utility poles, etc.
