Austin Energy expands Power Partner Electric Vehicle Program to include General Motors Electric Vehicles
August 29, 2025
Austin Energy’s innovative Power Partner Electric Vehicle (PPEV)-managed charging program is expanding to include several electric vehicle models from General Motors (GM). The newly eligible GM models include:
- Cadillac: Escalade IQ, LYRIQ, OPTIQ and VISTIQ
- Chevrolet: Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Silverado EV and Sierra EV
- GMC: Hummer EV
The PPEV program allows enrolled customers to support energy reliability during high-demand periods, typically June through September. During designated Power Partner events, Austin Energy will temporarily pause or reduce charging speed on a participant’s Level 2 EV charger or qualifying vehicle. These adjustments are minor, do not drain battery charge, and can be manually overridden at any time.
Participants in the program receive a $50 bill credit upon enrollment, plus $25 annually for continued participation.
GM joins Tesla (Model 3, S, X, Y, and Cybertruck) as eligible electric vehicles participating in the PPEV Program. Any electric vehicle can take part in the PPEV Program when using approved at-home charging stations from ChargePoint, EVoCharge, or Emporium.
“Adding GM’s electric vehicle lineup to Power Partner EV is a significant step toward creating a more flexible, sustainable electric grid,” said Richard Genece, Austin Energy Vice President for Customer Energy Solutions. “By enrolling in the program, EV drivers can directly contribute to Austin’s clean energy goals while earning incentives.”
Any EV can participate in the PPEV Program through the chargers if they use these eligible charging stations: ChargePoint, EVocharge and Emporium. Separately, GM and Tesla are the only OEMs where we can directly access the EVs themselves.
Austin Energy continues to expand PPEV and plans to add more EV brands and smart charger compatibility in the future.
