The energy choices you make every day can have a real impact on Austin’s future. Whether you choose renewable energy or participate in a demand response program, your actions help keep Austin’s electric grid cleaner, stronger and more reliable for the entire community.

As a community-owned utility, Austin Energy works with customers like you to build a more resilient and sustainable energy future. And together, Austin Energy customers are making measurable progress.

Your Participation Strengthens Grid Reliability

When temperatures rise and electricity demand increases, your participation matters.

In 2025, customers participating in Austin Energy demand response programs, such as Power PartnerTM, helped reduce electricity use by an average of 57 megawatts during peak demand periods. That is enough energy to power more than 14,000 homes during an event.

By reducing or shifting energy use during high-demand times, participating customers helped:

  • Reduce strain on the electric grid
  • Improve reliability during extreme weather
  • Support a more resilient Austin community
  • Lower overall peak electricity demand

More Customers are Choosing Green Power

In 2025:

  • More than 20,500 customers chose GreenChoice®, helping drive Austin toward a cleaner future. Their commitment avoided emissions equivalent to more than 815 million miles of driving—equal to skipping over 4.1 million Austin to Dallas car trips.
  • 603 new residential solar arrays were installed across our service area. Together, home solar customers made a powerful impact—avoiding the carbon emissions equivalent to charging more than 2.1 million smartphones.
  • More than 400 customers subscribed to Community Solar. Their participation removed as much carbon dioxide as 1,670 acres of U.S. forests absorb in a single year.

Your Choices Help Power Austin’s Future

Everyday choices add up. When you participate in energy-saving and renewable energy programs, you are helping support a stronger electric grid, a cleaner environment and a more resilient Austin.
