EV360℠ Residential Time-of-Use Rate Pilot Program

Charge At Home and On-The-Go

Austin Energy customers who drive a plug-in Electric Vehicle (EV) can now get off-peak charging at home, or anytime on-the-go — all for a fixed rate as low as $30/month.*

What Is EV360℠?

With Austin Energy’s EV360 program, EV drivers can take advantage of a fixed, time-of-use rate that includes unlimited charging at any Plug-In Everywhere℠ station and unlimited off-peak charging at home.

  • Off-peak hours are from 7:00 pm - 2:00 pm on weekdays, and anytime on weekends.
  • Your rate may be as low as $30/month* plus a one-time enrollment fee.

To qualify, participating customers will need to install an EV residential sub-meter circuit attached to an in-home electric vehicle Level Two Plug-In Electric Vehicle Charging Station. This charging station is connected to an EV meter that registers electrical power usage at the customer’s primary residence.

Customers who participate in EV360 will have a time-of-use rate applied to their EV charging usage for a term of no less than twelve (12) consecutive billing cycles.

How to Qualify

You may qualify for the EV360 rate if you use Level Two electric vehicle charging at home.

Other prerequisites include:

  • You must be an Austin Energy residential customer.
  • You must own or lease a plug-in electric vehicle.
  • You will be required to install a residential sub-meter circuit in your home.
  • Customers pay for the permit and installation of a residential sub-meter circuit.
  • Residential sub-meter circuits are installed in accordance with Austin Energy Distribution Interconnection Guide (pdf) to ensure they pass the city permit inspection.
  • Austin Energy will provide and install an electric vehicle charging meter.

What Will This Cost?

In addition to EV360’s monthly time-of-use rate, additional expenses will include:

  • A one-time enrollment fee of $150. This fee covers the cost of the non-standard electric vehicle charging meter that Austin Energy installs.
  • You will pay to have a licensed electrician install a residential sub-meter circuit. Costs for this installation will vary. We recommend you get several bids from qualified electricians and check references.
  • A $200 termination fee will be applied if you do not commit to 12 consecutive billing cycles.

Why Enroll?

If you drive a plug-in electric vehicle, the EV360 program can be quite beneficial and cost effective.

With EV360:

  • Participating in EV360 gives EV drivers access to a flat rate every month.
  • Customers who pay for electric usage in higher rate tiers can now separate their EV charging from their home energy consumption.
  • By charging during off peak hours, EV drivers are plugging into clean, 100% renewable energy.

How to Enroll

  1. Submit an application request. Austin Energy will verify your eligibility and email you a confirmation.

  2. Get bids for the installation of the residential sub-meter circuit from a licensed professional electrician. We highly recommend you get at least three bids and check references of licensed electricians.

  3. Select an electrician to install your residential sub-meter circuit. The electrician will arrange for the City of Austin permit inspection.

  4. Email Plug-In Austin when your installation passes the permit inspection.

  5. Austin Energy will make arrangements with you to install your new EV360 meter.

  6. After your new meter is installed, your EV360 rate begins.

  7. Austin Energy will send you an email confirming the completion of your meter installation and time-of-use charging rate. We will also include information on how to access the public Plug-In EVerwhere charging stations.
