Become an ECAD Energy Professional

The Energy Conservation Audit and Disclosure (ECAD) ordinance requires that ECAD audits be performed by an energy professional who is certified through the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) or the Building Performance Institute (BPI).

Austin Energy will add your company to the ECAD Energy Professionals List (pdf) if you:

  • Have the necessary certifications
  • Attend an Austin Energy orientation
  • Meet Austin Energy guidelines
  • Choose markets to provide services (residential, commercial, and multifamily)
  • Comply with all program requirements and conduct business in an honest, professional, and ethical manner. All qualified ECAD Energy Professionals must abide by the Austin Energy Code of Conduct and Ethical Requirements (pdf).

ECAD energy professionals must have experience with energy management software (such as the ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager) and the expertise to gather specific, quantifiable data, including:

  • Duct leakage
  • Insulation levels
  • Air-conditioning system condition
  • Solar heat gain through windows

For more information about becoming a registered ECAD energy professional, please email ECAD or call 512-482-5346.
