U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year — A Decade of Sustained Excellence

For the tenth time, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently recognized Austin Energy with an ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year–Sustained Excellence Award for continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency.

The 2014 Partner of the Year–Sustained Excellence Award recognizes ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products and services, as well as new homes and buildings in the commercial, industrial and public sectors. Award winners reduce greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals and employing innovative energy efficiency approaches.

“Austin Energy has earned EPA’s highest ENERGY STAR award — the 2014 Partner of the Year–Sustained Excellence Award — because of their unwavering commitment to helping consumers become increasingly more energy efficient,” said EPA Deputy Administrator Bob Perciasepe.

Austin Energy’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program offers customers rebates and low-interest loans through an outside lender to help make energy efficiency improvements to their homes. Rebates can cover an average of 28 percent, or more than $2,000, of the total cost of improvements.

Last year more than 2,100 customers participated in the Home Performance program, offsetting about 4 megawatts of peak demand during the hottest part of the summer. This offset saved customers, as a group, more than 4.3 million kilowatt- hours of electricity or about $435,000.

In the last five years alone, more than 13,100 customers have participated in the program, saving a combined 25.9 million kilowatt-hours or more than $2.5 million in savings as a group.

Reliable Public Power Provider Diamond Level – American Public Power Association

Austin Energy was awarded the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) Diamond Level designation from the American Public Power Association. The Diamond Level designation requires a 100% score. Platinum (90% score) and Gold (80% score) RP3 designations also are awarded by the APPA.

Of the nation’s more than 2,000 public power utilities, 184 utilities have received RP3 designations in 2013, with only six recognized at the Diamond level.

The prestigious designation is awarded to encourage public power utilities to operate an efficient and reliable electric system by demonstrating proficiency in four disciplines accounting for 25% each in scoring: reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. This is the second Diamond-level designation AE has received from APPA. Interested utilities must submit an extensive application documenting their proficiency in the four areas.
