Commercial Energy Management Services
Rebate & Incentive Program Guidelines

Step 1 - Customer Information Request

Complete and submit a Customer Information Request Form.
An Austin Energy Representative will contact you to schedule an initial assessment of your facility. Project related documentation, applications and additional energy related energy saving opportunities will be discussed during the initial assessment.
After you decide which energy conservation measures to install, the next step is to solicit bids and select the appropriate vendors/contractors. Austin Energy can provide you with a list of vendors/contractors who have participated in our programs (See participating companies).

Step 2 - Rebate Application Process & Installation

Existing Construction/Retrofits/Renovations
A Rebate Application accompanied by all required technical documentation on the proposed equipment must be submitted before any new equipment is installed.
Austin Energy must perform a preliminary inspection of your existing equipment (except on air conditioning equipment and motor replacements).
After receiving and reviewing your Rebate Application, you will receive approval to schedule installation of your equipment. AE will issue a Letter of Intent for approved City Council rebate applications exceeding pre-determined City Council budgetary limits.
Upon notification of project completion, an Austin Energy representative will schedule a final inspection to verify equipment installation.
Qualified small business customers may be eligible to receive a bonus rebate (excluding lighting) on all qualified energy conservation measures.
New Construction
Commercial New Construction projects are defined as: building shells, complete build-outs, finish-outs, additions and major building remodeling projects. Eligibility for rebates requires projects to exceed the IECC 2006 Energy Code efficiency levels, including City of Austin amendments. The building owner, design professional, contractor or other designated representative or agent is eligible to apply to Austin Energy for rebates on Commercial New Construction projects. Rebate Tiers will be used in the Commercial New Construction Rebate Program to designate the different rebate levels available. Each tier represents a segment or phase of the new construction process. Rebates will be paid based on when the customer enters the process by submitting a Customer Information Request form, working drawings, and specifications. The rebate tiers are listed and defined below.
Tier 1 - Planning and Design (AE requires working `drawings and specifications) - One Stop Shop review (Watershed Protection and Development Review Department)
Tier 2 – Post-Building permit - Pre Certificate of Occupancy issuance
Tier 3 – Post Certificate of Occupancy issuance period. (Six Months)
The rebate Levels for the program are identified as a percentage of the total rebates for which the customer qualifies.
Tier 1 – 125% of qualifying rebates
Tier 2 – 100% of qualifying rebates
Tier 3 – 50% of qualifying rebates

Step 3-Rebate Payments

When your project passes the final inspection, Austin Energy will initiate the payment process by processing a Check Request Form.
Austin Energy will process your rebate payment based on the installed equipment as documented on your Rebate Application.
Rebates are made payable to the commercial end-user as listed on the Check Request Form unless re-assigned to the contractor by the customer’s request and signature.
The maximum rebate per customer is $100,000 per fiscal year (October - September) for each customer facility site. Thermal Energy Storage projects have a separate $100,000 cap. The rebate payment for each energy project cannot exceed 50% of the total job cost, including equipment, installation and tax.
The maximum limit of $200,000 will be based on the sum of all demand-side management rebates paid to a customer/facility site per fiscal year. Thermal Energy Storage projects have a separate $100,000 cap.
You will receive your rebate check 4 to 6 weeks from the date all the required documentation is received and the project has passed the final inspection.
