Report and Check on an Outage
Austin Energy customers can check the status of their home or business or report outages by using one of the following: Your PowerLink number located at the upper right of the utility bill; the telephone number connected to the account; or the name and address of the account holder. Select the “Report Outage” or “Check Outage” links at the upper right of the Storm Center site to get started.

Legend Tab
Select the Legend tab at the upper right to learn more about the color-coded icons that represent the location and number of Austin Energy customers experiencing power outages. During major system outages, the outage map and Legend may display outages by ZIP code, with ZIP code boundaries highlighted in shades of yellow and grey to indicate the number of customers without power.

Zooming the Map
Click the + or – controls at the top left of the map or double click on the map to zoom in and out—you can zoom in to a one-and-a-half-mile bird’s-eye view. The outage condition of specific addresses cannot be viewed except by the property owner with sign in.

Outage Details
Move your mouse pointer over a color-coded icon or shaded ZIP code boundary to view a pop-up window with outage information. The pop-up window indicates what time an outage began, the number of customers without power, and an estimated restoration time. (In some cases, a pop up may show repair crew comments regarding that outage area.)

When you zoom in, you might see one or more shaded areas, which highlight outage areas. Shaded areas will not appear for very small outages.

During situations where there are a large number of outages, you might see a red circle icon. This depicts outage locations too close to display individually at that viewing level—double click or select Zoom In to differentiate individual outages.

Also in the Summary view, you may click on “Outages By ZIP Code” to see a chart of the number of customers served in a ZIP code and the number of those customers currently without power. You can sort the data by column.
