Austin Energy, our city's community-owned electric utility, is developing a plan to provide rebates for the purchase of plug-in hybrid electric automobiles.

Five Reasons to Support the Use of Plug-In Hybrids:

1. Save money by increasing fuel efficiency up to 100 miles per gallon by providing a rechargeable battery that greatly increases the distance we can drive our cars on the electric motor alone.
2. Use wind power generated by West Texas turbines that can recharge our car batteries at night, when the wind is strongest.
3. Harness solar energy from solar panels installed on the rooftops of parking garages and other buildings as we work and shop.
4. Reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions by burning far less gasoline.
5. Strengthen national security and reduce dependency on foreign oil by substituting clean, cheaper electricity from domestic sources.
